Inner Child Therapy

What is inner child therapy?

Inner child therapy is a form of psychotherapy or psychological healing that focuses on addressing and healing unresolved issues, traumas, and emotional wounds from a person's childhood. The concept of the "inner child" refers to the emotional and psychological aspects of a person's childhood experiences that continue to influence their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in adulthood.

Inside each of us resides an inner child, whether we maintain a conscious connection with them or not. The advantages of dedicating time and effort to reestablish this connection are boundless. From my own personal experience, an individual may find it astonishing how their interaction with their inner child can bring enlightenment to their current self-image.

How does inner child therapy help?

Inner child therapy involves exploring and revisiting past experiences, especially those from early childhood, to identify and understand the origins of emotional pain, trauma, or dysfunctional patterns. Reconnecting with their inner child, which is essentially the emotional self that experienced these past events and emotions. This is done through guided visualization allowing the client to speak to and give whatever needed to the little self.

The primary goal of inner child therapy is to heal emotional wounds and traumas from the past. This may involve expressing and processing suppressed emotions, such as grief, anger, fear, or sadness. By addressing the root causes of emotional pain and understanding how these patterns were established in childhood, individuals can work on changing self-defeating behaviors, beliefs, and reactions in their adult lives.
